Mersey RC supported local homeless charity, Reaching Out Liverpool, deliver essentials

Monday 3rd of November, 10 Mersey Rowing Club members headed to the Cunard building to meet the team running Reaching Out Liverpool.

Armed with 40 ham sandwiches, the team helped Ali, Tony and Jo, fill up their trolleys of hot food, packed lunches, clothes, toiletries and blankets.

The number of people sleeping rough in Liverpool has increased by 141% over the last six years. As an active part of the community, we’re always looking for ways that we can lend a hand to local charities and people.

A new member of ours, Ruth, who joined our masters squad was already an active member of the Reaching Out team and suggested it as a volunteering opportunity to the club.

Starting on Castle Street, walking down to Williamson Square, and then back up through central town, we were able to give out all of the hot food and cold packed lunches we had, stopping often to give out hot drinks, warm clothes, and essential toiletries.

Making an impact

Laura, President of Mersey Rowing Club for 2025/26 said, “I really enjoyed helping the Reaching Out Liverpool team. They were lovely, as well as all of the people we met out on the route.

“It’s really important to me that Mersey is a force for good and so we are always looking to have a positive impact in our community, from getting people into sport, to putting our numbers to good use in the community. From litterpicking to supporting initiatives like this one, we want to keep showing up for the city of Liverpool.”

A huge thank you to Reaching Out Liverpool team for allowing us to come out with them. We look forward to going out again soon and would urge any readers in the Liverpool City Region to do the same.
