As the countdown to Head of the River and Vesta Head continues, Mersey Rowing Club made a statement at Runcorn Head, coming home with not one, but two big wins.
Men’s 8+ – Beating the Odds
The standout result of the day came from our Men’s 8+, who lined up against some very strong opposition – including crews ranked significantly higher in national standings.
Undeterred, the Mersey crew delivered a fierce and committed row, finding rhythm early and powering down the course.
When the times came in, Mersey had taken the win in the 8+, showing grit, power, and that trademark club spirit.
It was the perfect confidence boost ahead of Head of the River, proving that hard work on the water is paying off.
Masters 4x – Early Days, Big Results
Not to be outdone, our Masters Quad also made headlines.
Racing together at one of their first events since forming, the crew put in a strong and composed performance to secure victory in the 4x.
For a squad still finding its feet, it was an impressive result that promises plenty more success to come, especially pre Vesta Head.

Building Momentum
Runcorn was about more than just medals, it was about setting the tone for the season.
With the Men’s 8+ showing they can take on bigger names, and the Masters Quad hitting the ground running, the whole club heads into the next block of racing with momentum and belief.
