Mersey Wins Gold at Dee Autumn Head 2025

Mersey Rowing Club enjoyed a strong outing at the Dee Autumn Head 2025, returning home with multiple podium finishes and a gold medal despite challenging steering conditions on the river. Across all squads, crews showed determination, teamwork, and early-season promise in a very competitive race.

Men’s Squad

The men’s coxless four of Marcus, Callum, Luke, and Christian overcame a difficult row marked by steering issues that forced them to take a longer course. Despite the setback, they delivered a commanding performance to claim gold with a time of 16:23.3, securing Mersey’s top result of the day.

Women’s Squad

Both women’s fours produced impressive rows, with medals in each event. The coxless four of Polly, Emily, Jess C, and Giulia handled tough steering conditions with resilience to take second place in 17:44.3.

Meanwhile, the coxed four of Jess D, Millie, Ellie, and Lilly, coxed by Nicola, impressed on their debut as a crew, delivering a powerful performance to also secure second with a time of 17:22.5.

Master’s Squad

In the Open Masters double, Gwen and Nefyn demonstrated consistency and composure, competing strongly in the open category to finish second in 20:46.4. Their result capped off another solid performance from Mersey’s masters rowers.

Club Collaboration and Thanks

There was also strong collaboration across the day, with JMU rowers lending a hand throughout the event and celebrating their own success — a win in the women’s quad, along with third-place finishes in the men’s quad and men’s single (15:58.2, 17:01.9, and 17:26.4 respectively).

The club extended thanks to Sam, Laura, and Zetta for their work in organising the day, as well as to all volunteers and supporters who kept the event running smoothly. And in true Mersey fashion, an honourable mention went to the Mersey gazebo — the unofficial hero of the day, keeping crews warm and dry throughout the event.
