Competitive Rowing

At Mersey Rowing Club, our Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s squads are built around a simple principle: hard work is not just about putting in long hours; it is about focus, consistency, and perseverance. We welcome athletes who are ready to put in the graft, whether you’re an experienced competitor or a determined newcomer looking to step up to the next level. Our performance programme is designed to unlock speed, sharpen technique, and prepare crews to perform at their best on race day.

Our training is purposeful and progressive, with a focus on efficient rowing, sustainable fitness, and technical precision. Athletes benefit from structured water sessions on Liverpool’s Waterfront, alongside land training that builds endurance and strength. Under the guidance of our coaching team, we target major events throughout the season, from local head races and regattas to national competition.

Recent seasons have produced standout results. In the 2024 Head of the River Race (HoRR), our men’s 8+ climbed 88 places to finish 228th, one of the biggest jumps in the event. In 2025, they built on that success, moving up a further 36 places to finish 288th, supported by consecutive wins at Trafford and Runcorn regattas earlier in the season. The men’s squad also represented the club at the 2024 National Championships, competing in both the men’s double (2x) and 8+, underlining the strength and depth within the squad.

Our women’s squad has made equally strong strides. In 2025, they launched a determined Henley Women’s Regatta campaign, putting in a competitive time trial performance against a tough draw after a string of local race wins. In the 2024 National Championships, Mersey fielded two women’s quads (4x) and a beginner double (2x), showcasing the progression pathway and growing depth of talent within the team.

If you’re ready to commit, work hard, and be part of a squad that values both competition and community, we’d like to hear from you. Whether your goal is to win, develop as an athlete, or simply push your limits, Mersey Rowing Club can give you the platform to get there.
