Northwich Regatta 2014
Steven Forshaw (IM3 4+, 2 seat) gives us the raceday report from Northwich Regatta 2014.

The second regatta of the year for Mersey was a testing one this year with only one winners medal returning back with the club. The weather was outstanding for rowing on a scorching day in May.

Mersey had three junior entries in the sculls racing in the J14 and J15 categories. Callum winning his J15 entry with ease in the end against a long running sculling rival who has been dominating the division for the past couple of years. An excellent win for Callum.

Liam and George were not so fortunate, Liam losing out in his heat and poor George capsizing after colliding with a buoy in the scull. Both unlucky as we have high hopes for these boys.

Our women's Novice 4+ made the decision to race at Novice and Masters level to get the maximum out of their day and although they showed great character and performed extremely well they were just shy of some very good crews which we saw on the day.

The same was to be said for the men's IM3 category. After putting together two competitive crews for the same division, both were beaten in the first round and couldn't manage to make an all Mersey final. Beaten by Trafford RC and Chester University and giving us a good benchmark for the club to aim for this summer.

All in all the club had a great day, a good learning curve for us going into the regatta season, next stop...Chester!
