The learn to row programme at Mersey rowing club consists of:
+ 4 sessions in which you will be coached by of our level 2 qualified rowing coaches who also a level 3 qualified personal trainer, Andy Coyne.
From there on you will then transfer your new knowledge into the training boats which are very stable unlike racing boats. This will allow you to use your new technique on the water in a stable boat. The first session will be a 'dry' session using the club's rowing machines. Our qualified coaches will teach good posture and technique which are essential in rowing.
As you become proficient and finish the course you will be encouraged to integrated into the appropriate squad should you wish to take your rowing to the next level or continue to row on a more social level in the Friday fun row session.
As an addition to the learn to row course capsize drills will be arranged to aid members and ensure your safety should this ever occur. Once in a squad you will be able to row as part of a competitive crew, on a recreational basis or even learn how to scull (single person boat).
The cost of the learn to row course is £45,- and includes expert coaching and an introduction to the sport of rowing. We hope that we will see you soon!
Training & Development:
Once you have completed the learn to row course members are then given an option for how they would like to continue their membership - either through the Friday night recreational group, through the men's or women's squads, or through one-to-one coaching with one of our club coaches and personal trainer, Andy Coyne.
Further development with Andy can be arranged at an additional cost. You can visit Andy's page at www.improvepersonaltraining.co.uk
There are currently two options for extending your training should you wish to, both are based around a monthly payment:
- Option 1: (Single Person) sculling in a single or sculling in a double with coach Andy Coyne.
- Option 2: (Two people) friends or classmates from the Learn to Row course are trained in a double with coach Andy Coyne from a single scull, joining you on the water.
The above development programmes are at additional cost to your membership fees, these additional sessions will enable you to progress quicker with further 1-2-1 coaching.
There is also a further option which is a holistic package for scullers who want to take their training up a level. This includes video analysis of their rowing, nutritional analysis, benchmarking and testing sessions, periodised training programme leading up to a big event, race strategy and visualisation advice. This would be a package for people wanting to compete seriously and who wanted to invest some serious time in their training.
For more information regarding this additional training please contact Andy Coyne via his website: www.improvepersonaltraining.co.uk.
